☀️ Heat
🖥️ User Interface
- You should play the game with the notion that your hydration-bar is a ticking time-bomb that can be reset but never really disarmed
- If you spend too much time in the sun, you will experience sunstroke. It gives a debuff and drains your hydration meter-level faster
- Traveling at night or standing in the shade significantly decreases your risk of dehydration and sunstroke
- In extremely hotter areas, it may be necessary to forgo heavy combat outerwear in favor of mobility and cooling, relying solely on the underarmor Stillsuit
- Certain zones can have radiation due to crashed ships, wreckages, industrial accidents or past conflicts. You can also gear-up against that
UI Threat Indicators |
Function |
Health Bar |
Shows your current health status. Depletion leads to a "Down But Not Out" state, allowing for potential self-revival if hydration levels are sufficient |
Hydration Meter |
Indicates your current water level. Dehydration leads to stamina loss and can be fatal |
Stillsuit Reservoir |
Displays the amount of water recycled by your Stillsuit from bodily moisture, in addition to the hydration meter |
Sunstroke Indicator |
Alerts you to the risk of sunstroke when exposed to the desert sun for extended periods. Sunstroke causes debuffs and accelerates dehydration |
Stamina Meter |
Tracks your energy for actions like running or climbing. Dehydration also negatively impacts stamina regeneration |
Temperature Gauge |
Monitors environmental temperature, warning of extreme heat or cold. Proper gear and shelter are necessary to mitigate these risks |
Spice Saturation |
Reflects the amount of spice in your bloodstream. High saturation can grant abilities like limited prescience but may also have adverse effects |
Radiation Exposure |
Alerts you to areas with high radiation levels, which can harm your character over time. Protective equipment is required |
🧪 Lootable Water Collection Methods
- You will start by looting and scavenging for water early in the game, this will continue through PvE missions
- You start with a basic version of the Stillsuit as part of your initial gear. It will recycle your own body’s sweat and moisture
- Without a Stillsuit, survival is almost impossible. Upgrading your Stillsuit will allow you travel much further
Collection Method |
Description |
Tools/Requirements |
Notes |
Killing NPCs or Creatures |
Some enemies drop hydration items or water packs. |
Basic combat |
Risk vs. reward; supplements supply in hostile zones. |
Stillsuit |
Slowly recycles your body’s moisture into drinkable water. |
Auto-equipped |
Core passive mechanic; no player input needed beyond suit maintenance. Can be upgraded for better efficiency |
Looting Containers |
Scavenge water flasks, canteens, or packs from crates or ruins. |
None |
Most common method early on; inconsistent supply. |
Consumable Items |
Items like hydration packs or moisture tablets restore hydration. |
Loot or trade |
Temporary solutions; stackable but finite. |
Water Caches |
Rare, hidden spots that offer clean water in small amounts. |
Exploration and awareness |
Found in survival caches or tied to story quests. |
Trade or Quests |
Water rewards from NPC interactions, alliances, or mission completions. |
Dialogue options, progress |
Encourages early engagement with world systems and factions. |
💧 Water Harvesting Methods
- Thirst is quenched through the dew fields in the shade. Not only shade in itself reduces the chance of sunstroke, but it’s also where you find plants that grow
- Dew Reapers, Blood Extractors and empty Blood Sacks ****can be crafted early in the game, allowing players to collect and store blood while exploring, even before establishing a base
Collection Method |
Description |
Requirement |
Fibrous Plants |
Certain plants contain water-rich fibers that can be harvested. |
No special tool required. Not the most efficient or healthiest method of collecting water |
Dew Fields |
Areas where dew is collected, offering minimal water but useful in early stages. Optimal harvest time is midnight game-time |
Requires Dew Reaper tool to extract moisture from dew fields. |
Blood Harvesting |
Extracting water from the blood of creatures or enemies, which must be purified before consumption. |
Requires Blood Extractor, empty Blood Sack, and Blood Purifier. |
<aside> ⚠️
Some of the following preparations are also in the section “Planning for Crafting” (as means for shelter survival)

🚰 Post-Base Water Storage & Processing Methods
- Bases can also accommodate a blood refinery that extracts water from the blood that you collected from dead NPCs
- Portable Water Containers can become very useful for extended expeditions or for scouting roles
- Once your base is well developed, you will be able to install passive water extraction systems that will make the game mechanics of gathering water less repetitive
Storage Method |
Function |
Capacity |
Usage |
Blood Purifier |
Processes blood sacks acquired from a blood extractor when defeating NPCs and extracts the valuable water from it |
Variable |
Needs to be filled-in and it takes time to process the blood |
Portable Water Containers |
Smaller, movable containers for transporting water |
Low |
Useful for expeditions away from the base |
Cisterns |
Large containers designed to store surplus water collected from various sources |
High |
Essential for maintaining water reserves or supporting industrial processes and crafting advanced materials that require water as a component |
Dew Collectors |
Structures that passively gather moisture from the air, contributing to water storage |
Moderate |
Provides a passive steady, albeit slow, accumulation of water over time |
