🌪️ Storms

⚠️ Some of these preparations are also in the sections “Heat” or “Vehicle Maintenance & Upgrades”

🌀 Coriolis Storms (PvP in Deep Desert)

  • These storms are described as cataclysmic and will destroy "anything and everything" within the Deep Desert area. This includes player-built outposts and structures
  • There is no indication that players have any special protection or ability to withstand the full force of the Coriolis storm in the Deep Desert
  • These storms are part of a weekly PvP cycle in the Deep Desert called “Shifting-Sands”. The the Deep Desert (PvP) map is wiped and the terrain is reshaped to redistribute resources in new locations
  • Due to the weekly wipe, any bases built in the Deep Desert are considered temporary staging areas. Players are expected to move valuable resources to their permanent bases located in the Hagga Basin, which is a PvE zone and is persistent (not wiped by the Coriolis storms)
  • To mitigate the frustration of rebuilding bases, players can create blueprints of their base designs, allowing for quicker design after the storm. However materials are still required to build the construction

🌩️ Normal Sandstorms (Any Region, PvP or PvE)

  • Rather than wiping structures, normal sandstorms primarily pose environmental hazards to players and vehicles. Rducing visibility, increasing exposure damage, and affecting movement and stamina regeneration.
  • Players caught in a sandstorm without proper shelter or Stillsuit upgrades may suffer debuffs such as reduced health regeneration, increased thirst rate and slow stamina regeneration
  • Players can seek shelter inside structures, caves, or beneath terrain features to avoid damage and visibility penalties during these storms.
  • Sandstorms significantly reduce visibility, making it harder for players to navigate and spot enemies or objectives. This can force players to slow down, rely on other senses, or take refuge during the storm.
  • Vehicles, like sandworms, ornithopters, and buggies, are impacted by the sand and debris in the storm. The harsh environment can cause wear on vehicles over time, leading to damage or temporary malfunction.
  • In some cases, vehicles may become stuck, disabled, or difficult to control in the middle of a sandstorm.
  • Travel during a sandstorm is much slower. Winds can push vehicles off course or cause them to lose traction, which might affect maneuverability or control

Normal Sandstorm

Any Region
Electrically charged wind and dust storms with strong particle friction and static buildup. These storms do not destroy structures but disrupt visibility, movement, hydration, and equipment. Low Visibility, Hindering Movement, Equipment Interference

Shelter-in-place or strategic traversal; structures remain safe
- Advanced Stillsuit: Protects from dehydration even more
- Protective Gear: If more resistant gear exists, wear it
- Vehicle Backup Tool: Sheaths a vehicle in your personal inventory (not realistic, but useful!)
- Storm-Resistant Shelter: Shields can protect bases but require fuel to stay on
- Insulated Electronics: Gear that mitigates electrical interference may exist
- Water Stockpile Pre-Storm: Dehydration has an indirect impact while the storm lasts
Coriolis Storm

Deep Desert Only
These storms are cataclysmic, which wipes the Deep Desert map and reshapes terrain and resources. Nothing survives these storms Severe Damage, Map Alterations, Structures lost

Focus on Evacuation, Not Prevention
All of the above, minus:
- Storm-Resistant Shelter: Shields can’t protect bases during a Coriolis Storm

Storm shelters and reinforced structures offer no protection — all structures are destroyed
